Analisis Arah dan Kecepatan Arus Laut Di Perairan Pulau Pelapis, Kabupaten Kayong Utara

This research aims to examine the speed and direction of currents in the waters of Peputar Village, Dusun Raya, Karimata Islands District. Current data collection is carried out through direct measurements using conventional current kites at several observation points. The measurement results show that the current speed at the surface ranges from 0.0138 to 0.4082 m/s, with the dominant direction towards the southwest and northeast, indicating the influence of the monsoon winds. These data indicate the existence of weak current stratification, as seen from the relatively stable current speed at various depths. The current pattern found is also consistent with the Wyrtki current model, which explains the current circulation in Indonesian waters which is influenced by monsoon winds. The results of this study can be used to understand water dynamics that impact local ecosystems and local fishing activities.
