Abstract

Tarahan Island is a small island located in the northern part of Banten Province, Indonesia. Its proximity to the industrial zone near Bojonegara, Banten, makes it susceptible to pollution, leading to a decline in the diversity, evenness, and dominance of biota inhabiting dead coral reefs in the area. The objective of this study was to determine the diversity index, evenness index, and dominance index of biota on dead coral at Tarahan Island, Banten. The research focused on two sampling stations: the western and eastern sides of the island, using a random sampling method. The findings revealed both similarities and differences in species composition between the two stations. At the western station, 4 phyla comprising 24 species were identified, while the eastern station recorded 4 phyla with 21 species. The calculated diversity index (H') was 2.83 for the western station and 2.55 for the eastern station. The evenness index (J') was 0.90 (west) and 0.84 (east), while the dominance index (D) was higher at the eastern station (0.12) compared to the western station (0.08). By analyzing these indices in relation to the aquatic conditions of Tarahan Island, conclusions can be drawn regarding the ecological stability of the biota inhabiting the dead coral reefs.
