In this study, the species diversity of crustaceans in two different habitats on the eastern side of Tarahan Island—coastal and dead coral reef areas—will be compared, and their link to water quality will be investigated. Purposive sampling and handpicking methods were used for the sample process. Dissolved oxygen (DO) and biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) metrics were used to evaluate the quality of the water. According to the findings, there were more species and individuals in the coastal area than in the habitat of dead coral. A balanced community was indicated by the moderate Shannon-Wiener diversity index (H') in both locations (1.94 and 1.96) and the low dominance index (C) (0.1). Water quality met aquatic life standards. The structure of crustacean communities is influenced by variations in habitat features and environmental quality, which also act as ecological indicators.
